Wordpress is one's of the most popular CMS which oftenly updating they system and now wordpress will updating they engine to wordpress 3. Before using it on true site and true server, it will be better if we try it on our local host server to see the difference with the older version and try our plugins and themes on this version.
To updating wordpress engine on localhost you can follow my way :
1. Download and extract your new wordpress version
2. Backup all files on wp-content folder (containing plugins and themes)
3. Backup wp-config.php (you can found this file on main wordpress folder)
4. Delete all files on old wordpress version folder except all files on wp-content folder
5. Copy Place all new wordpress version files.
6. If question for re-write files on wp-content folder appear, choose "Yes"
7. Put wp-config.php files which already backup before to main wordpress folder
8. Actived your localhost server
9. Open readme files on main wordpress folder, then find link to wp-admin/update-core.php files and click it.
10. Follow the instruction till finish.
That is all step by step instruction to updating wordpress on local host. After updating your wordpress system on your localhost check the compatibility between your most favourite plugins and themes you use, if something goes wrong or you found some bug, report it to wordpress developer and let them fix it.
